Kill Switch

On by default. While the VPN is on, it is designed to block ordinary internet traffic outside the tunnel, including IPv6 and DNS, through the firewall of the system. If the connection drops, the internet stays blocked and the app reconnects by itself.

The big button turns off the VPN and the block together, and your ordinary internet comes back. Closing the window keeps everything as it is.

You can turn Kill Switch off in Settings while the VPN is off. Then, if the VPN drops, your traffic can go directly, without the VPN. While the VPN is connected, DNS is set to go through the tunnel.

If the internet does not come back

Try in this order:

  1. Press the big button.
  2. Settings → “Emergency: turn off VPN and restore the internet”.
  3. As an administrator, run:
    sudo /usr/lib/marzvpn/marzvpn-helper --recover

Removing the app also removes the block.

Requirements

  • 64-bit x86 (amd64) with a .deb system and systemd.
  • Recommended: Linux Mint 22.3. No ARM or RPM package.
  • A password for administrator rights, to install.

Known limits

  • No VPN can promise complete protection in every situation.
  • While the Kill Switch is on, the local network, printers, hotel Wi-Fi sign-in pages, containers and Tailscale do not work.
  • After a restart with the VPN left on, the internet stays blocked until you sign in and the app connects. Only the user who turned the VPN on, or an administrator, can turn it off.
